네가 만일 하나님의 아들이어든...(마태복음 27:27-44)

2026년 2월 16일(월) - 마태복음 27:27-44

(마 27:40) ⁴⁰ 이르되 "성전을 헐고 사흘에 짓는 자여, 네가 만일 하나님의 아들이어든 자기를 구원하고 십자가에서 내려오라" 하며

예수님의 공생애는 “네가 만일 하나님의 아들이라면 돌을 떡이 되게 하라, 네가 만일 하나님의 아들이라면 뛰어내리라”라는 마귀의 시험으로 시작되었습니다(마 4:3,5). 그리고 십자가에 달린 채 예수는 또다시 “네가 만일 하나님의 아들이라면 자기를 구원하고 십자가에서 내려오라”(40,42,43)는 희롱의 말을 듣습니다. 마태는 이렇게 예수님의 생애를 ‘하나님의 아들’이라는 문장 안에 담아냅니다. 

세례 받을 때에 예수는 ‘하나님께서 사랑하시는 아들’로 선포됩니다(마3:17), 그리고 공생애 사역의 한가운데서 예수는 ‘그리스도, 살아계신 하나님의 아들’로 고백됩니다(마 16:16). 이어진 변화산에서의  변용에서 예수는 또다시 ‘하나님께서 사랑하시는 아들’로 알려집니다(17:5). 그리고 마지막으로 백부장에 의해 “참으로 이는 하나님의 아들이었다”라고 고백됩니다(27:54).  

하나님의 아들이었기에 예수는 십자가에서 내려오지 않고, 십자가에서 죽임을 당하십니다(40). 하나님의 아들이었기에 그는 자기를 구원하지 않고 다른 이들을 구원합니다(42). 하나님의 아들이었기에 그는 하나님을 신뢰하고 자기의 삶과 죽음을 온전히 그의 손에 의탁합니다(cf.43). 누군가에 대한 조롱과 모욕의 말 한마디 내뱉는 것으로 사람들은 묘한 권력의 맛을 느끼며 허영에 부풀지만, ‘하나님의 아들’ 예수는 마음과 목숨과 뜻을 다해 ‘하나님을 사랑’하고, 자기의 이웃을 자기처럼 사랑하는 분으로 거기 계십니다(마 22:36-40). '구원과 영생'은 예수께서 열어 놓으신 '아들의 그 길을 따라 걸어가는 자들'에게만 허락되고 누려질 것입니다.

조롱과 모욕의 말을 내뱉는 것으로 자기 권력을 삼는 자의 허영이 아니라, 마음을 다해 하나님을 사랑하고, 그 사랑을 따라 누군가를 참으로 사랑하는 하나님의 아들의 참된 영광을 따라 살게 하소서.

Monday, February 16, 2026 – Matthew 27:27–44

(Matthew 27:40) ⁴⁰ and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”

Jesus’ public ministry begins with the devil’s testing: “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread,” and, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down” (Matt 4:3, 5). And while hanging on the cross, Jesus once again hears the taunt, “If you are the Son of God, save yourself and come down from the cross” (27:40, 42, 43). In this way, Matthew frames the whole life of Jesus within the question of what it means to be “the Son of God.”

At his baptism, Jesus is proclaimed “my beloved Son” (3:17). In the midst of his ministry, he is confessed as “the Christ, the Son of the living God” (16:16). On the mountain of transfiguration, he is again revealed as “my beloved Son” (17:5). Finally, at the cross, a centurion declares, “Truly this was the Son of God” (27:54).

Because he is the Son of God, Jesus does not come down from the cross but remains there and is put to death (27:40). Because he is the Son of God, he does not save himself but saves others (27:42). Because he is the Son of God, he entrusts his life and his death completely into the hands of the Father (cf. 27:43).  With just one word of mockery or scorn, people savor a subtle and distorted sense of power, puffed up with hollow pride. Yet the Son of God stands there loving God with all his heart, soul, and mind, and loving his neighbor as himself (22:36–40). Salvation and eternal life will be granted—and truly enjoyed—only to those who walk in that very way of the Son which he has opened and set before us.

Let us not live by the empty pride that seeks power through mockery and contempt, but follow the true glory of the Son of God—loving God with all our heart and, out of that love, truly loving others.
